Now that Thanksgiving is over (I have a strict policy on giving every holiday it’s due), I have been indulging in non-stop Christmas music. As I was listening to Josh Groban’s “Thankful,” the lyrics struck me in whole new way today. I’ve listened to this song multiple times a year, but today as I was processing a past holiday with family (new and old) and looking towards upcoming festivities as well, the words take on new meaning to me. We do pray for what we know will one day be our family, and we choose to hope for it every day; even though sometimes it feels so far away. In the mean time though I remember we have each other, loving friends and family, and so much more. There is still hope and joy to have.
So, even though things may not be what we thought they’d be this holiday season, there’s still so much to be thankful for.
"Thankful"
Somedays we forget
To look around us
Somedays we can't see
The joy that surrounds us
So caught up inside ourselves
We take when we should give.
So for tonight we pray for
What we know can be.
And on this day we hope for
What we still can't see.
It's up to us to be the change
And even though we all can still do more
There's so much to be thankful for.
Look beyond ourselves
There's so much sorrow
It's way too late to say
I'll cry tomorrow
Each of us must find our truth
It's so long overdue
So for tonight we pray for
What we know can be
And every day we hope for
What we still can't see
It's up to us to be the change
And even though we all can still do more
There's so much to be thankful for.
Even with our differences
There is a place we're all connected
Each of us can find each other's light
So for tonight we pray for
What we know can be
And on this day we hope for
What we still can't see
It's up to us to be the change
And even though this world needs so much more
There's so much to be thankful for
